German Chocolate Cake

  1. Combine chocolate and water; bring to a boil.
  2. Stir until chocolate melts.
  3. Cool; stir in vanilla and set aside.
  4. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed.
  5. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Add chocolate mixture; beat until blended.
  7. Combine flour, soda and salt.
  8. Add to creamed mixture.
  9. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; fold into batter.
  10. Pour into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  12. Cool in pans 10 minutes.
  13. Remove from pans and let cool completely on wire racks. Frost with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.
