Italian Sausage Roll
- 1/2 pound hot Italian sausage
- 1/2 pound mild Italian sausage
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- salt and freshly ground black pepperttt loaf frozen bread dough thawed
- If using sausage in links, remove casing. Cook sausage over medium heat breaking up into fine pieces. Add garlic and saute for 2 minutes more. Add tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Cook for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Roll dough into a rectangle, about 20 x 16 inches. Spread sausage mixture over dough. Roll up lengthwise. Make two or three 1 inch slits in the top of the dough for venting. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes, or until nicely browned. If dough is getting too brown, cover with foil Serves 6.
