Prune Cake
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 c. sour milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon and cloves
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. chopped prunes
- 1/3 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/4 c. milk
- 2 1/4 c. powdered sugar
- Melt, in saucepan, over low heat, butter or margarine.
- Add brown sugar.
- Cook and stir over low heat 2 minutes.
- Stir in milk.
- Cook and stir, over low heat, until mixture comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat.
- Cool to lukewarm or until the hand can be comfortably held on the bottom of pan.
- Stir in, about 1/2 cup at a time, powdered sugar.
- Beat until smooth and creamy.
