Holiday Fruitcake Cookies

  1. Sift together flour, soda and salt (or use self-rising flour). Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs; beat until light and fluffy. Add buttermilk and flour, alternately.
  2. Then fold in nuts, cherries, dates and candied fruit.
  3. Chill dough.
  4. Drop teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
  5. Top each with a cherry half.
  6. Bake in moderate oven (375u0b0) 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 8 dozen.
