Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Add dry ingredients to mixer bowl.
  2. Whisk to blend.
  3. Cut cold shortening and butter into small pieces and add to bowl.
  4. Mix on stir for 1 minute until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Continue on stir while adding the 3/4 cup of cold buttermilk.
  5. Mix just until moistened.
  6. Form dough into a ball and turn out onto lightly floured board.
  7. Knead 5 to 6 times and roll out to 1/2-inch thick.
  8. Cut into 2 inch rounds.
  9. Arrange biscuits on greased baking pan.
  10. Brush with 1 tablespoon buttermilk.
  11. Bake at 450u0b0 for 15 minutes.
  12. Yield:
  13. 16 biscuits.
