Sweet Bowknots(Italian)

  1. Beat eggs lightly, add granulated sugar, salt and flavoring. Blend thoroughly.
  2. Place flour on board; cut in butter and add egg mixture.
  3. Knead until smooth dough is obtained.
  4. If dough is too soft, gradually add a little flour to make firm, but not hard. Set aside for 30 minutes.
  5. Then cut dough into 4 sections.
  6. Roll on well-floured board until wafer thin.
  7. Cut with pastry cutter into strips 6 inches long x 3/4-inch wide.
  8. Tie individual bowknots or make slit in center and invert.
  9. Fry bows about 3 minutes unti lightly
  10. brown in deep hot oil.
  11. Drain on absorbent paper, cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  12. Makes about 6 to 7 dozen bowknots.
