Caramel Layer Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
  2. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch pan. Combine in heavy saucepan the first 2 ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramels are melted.
  3. Keep warm. Combine in a large bowl the remaining ingredients except chocolate pieces. By hand, stir until dough holds together. Press half the dough into pan.
  4. Reserve remaining dough for topping. Bake at 350u0b0 for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate pieces over baked crust. Spread caramel mixture over all.
  5. Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture. Bake 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely.
  6. Makes about 3 dozen bars.
