Frozen Cranberry Slush
- 2 qt. cranberry cocktail juice
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 1 tall can frozen orange juice or 2 small cans
- In a Confederate camp, somewhere in Virginia.
- "The night was excessively cold and we passed the evening in toasting our toes before a roaring fire, talking of home and the dear ones there in anything but a joyous strain.
- We had made up our mind to go egg-nogless to bed when, about 11 o'clock, the welcome sound of horses hoofs on the crisp snow outside.
- Out we rushed and there we found the tardy Mose with his well-filled demijohn.
- The eggs were quickly beaten, the sugar stirred in, the whiskey added, and we had one of the most delicious nogs that ever a mortal man quaffed. Taking a couple of glasses apiece, we retired merrily to bed, to forget the hardships of a soldier's life and dream of a joyful reunion with the dear absent ones so far away."
