Pfeffernuesse
- 1 1/2 c. shortening, use part butter
- 2 c. dark syrup
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. nuts, chopped
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 11 c. flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 bottle Anise Oil (1 oz.)
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Mix all ingredients together. Refrigerate 1 day.
- Take 1 tsp. of batter and roll into ball (approximately size of walnut).
- Use powdered sugar on hands, if it sticks.
- Place on greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 18 minutes.
- Bake until no indentation remains when touched.
- Roll in powdered sugar.
- Will keep for months at room temperature in a glass container.
- They stay nice and soft.
