Valentine'S Day Cookies
- 12 Tbsp. (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 c. granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 2/3 c. flour
- 1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder plus 2 Tbsp. (for icing)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. confectioners sugar
- 1/4 c. milk
- red food coloring (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Using an electric mixer, beat butter until fluffy.
- Scrape bowl as needed.
- Add granulated sugar and beat until combined.
- Beat in egg yolk, vanilla and then flour, 1/3 cup cocoa powder and salt.
- Scrape dough onto a piece of waxed paper; pat into a disc and cover with another piece of waxed paper.
- Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick.
- Using a 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cutter, cut out cookies; place on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake until tops are firm and cookies are set around the edges, about 15 minutes.
- Let cool 5 minutes, then transfer the cookies to racks to cool completely.
