Spicy Barbeque Cheddar Burgers
- 1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup dried bread crumbs
- 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup minced red onion
- 3/4 cup barbeque sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp liquid smoke flavoring
- 1-1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1-1/2 tsp prepared spicy brown mustard
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (less heat, use 1/4 tsp)
- 6 slices sharp cheddar (optional)
- 6 hamburger buns split
- In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, cheddar cheese, onion, and bread crumbs. Season with Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, mustard, cayenne and ground pepper. Mix well. Form into six patties, and place on a plate. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. Place hamburgers on the hot grill, and cook for about 5 minutes per side, until well done and cheese is melted. Baste with barbeque sauce while cooking. For an option, add a slice of cheddar to each burger 1 minute before removing from grill, and allow cheese to melt. Serve on buns.
