Chocolate Custard Devil'S Food Cake

  1. Combine chocolate, 1/2 cup milk, whole egg and 2/3 cup sugar; cook over low heat until thick.
  2. Cool.
  3. Cream shortening and remaining cup of sugar; add egg yolks and mix well.
  4. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with 1 cup milk and vanilla extract. Stir in chocolate custard mixture.
  5. Bake in 2 waxed paper-lined 8-inch layer cake pans in moderate oven (350u0b0) for 25 to 30 minutes.
  6. Put layers together with frosting of your choice (regular white seven minute frosting, ivory frosting or chocolate fudge frosting).
