Old Fashioned Macaroni And Cheese
- 6 c. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 c. elbow macaroni (8 oz.)
- 2 1/2 c. cold milk
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1/4 c. grated onion
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. white pepper
- 1 1/2 c. shredded cheese
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1/4 c. bread crumbs
- Butter a 2-quart casserole.
- Set aside.
- Bring water to a rapid boil in a heavy 4-quart saucepan.
- Add 1 teaspoon of salt and oil.
- Gradually add macaroni, being sure water continues to boil.
- Cook macaroni, uncovered, until tender, but firm.
- Stir occasionally.
- Drain.
- Place in prepared casserole.
