Mother'S Best Fudge Cake
- 3 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 well beaten egg
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
- Combine chocolate, 1/2 cup milk, well beaten egg and 2/3 cup sugar in saucepan; cook over low heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Cool.
- Thoroughly cream shortening, 1 cup sugar and vanilla.
- Beat in eggs 1 at a time.
- Sift dry ingredients together; add alternately with 2/3 cup milk.
- Blend in chocolate mixture. Pour into 2 paper (wax) lined 9 x 1 1/2-inch round pans.
- Bake in moderate oven, 350u0b0, for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Frost with Chocolate Satin Frosting.
