New Year/Yom Kippur Bread
- 2 tbs yeast
- 1/2 c warm water
- 1/4 c butter
- 1/3 c sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 c milk
- 5.5-6 c flour
- 3 eggs
- 1.5 cups dried fruits, chopped
- Soften dried fruits in water in microwave, drain. Soften yeast in warm water. Melt butter and then add sugar, milk and salt to warm them all.
- Combine milk mixture, raisins, softened yeast, and eggs. Stir in 5-6 c folour to make a moderately soft dough. Knead til smooth. Grease in bowl and cover for 60 minutes. Punch, cover again for 10 minutes. Divide dough in thirds. Make 16 large balls and 16 small balls. Put 8 large balls around perimeter of a 9" round pan and poke a hole int he top of each for a small ball to be placed there. Cover to rise about 45 minutes. Combine an egg yolk with 1tbs water and brush the tops. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Remove from pans. The best ever!!!!
