Apple Crumble
- FILLING:
- 6 green apples
- 2tbs apple juice
- 1tbs lemon juice
- 50g brown sugar
- 50g raisins or sultanas
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- Nob of butter
- CRUMBLE
- 170g plain flour
- 170g oats
- 65g chopped pecans or walnuts
- 150g butter
- 160g cassonade brown sugar
- 1tsp salt
- Peel, core, chop and cook apples with all the other filling ingredients. (Chop each apple into quarters, and then each quarter into 3 so that the chunks aren't too small.) Cook till soft but still with some firmness. You don't want apple sauce!
- Mix the flower, oats, salt and sugar - and then rub in the butter until the mixture is grainy. Add the nuts.
- Put the apples into a dish - maybe 20cm diameter - and pour the crumble on top. Don't press it down.
- Bake at 180 celsius for 30 minutes - or until the top is golden.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or marscapone cream.
