Classic French Toast
- 1 inch thick Bread Slices
- Breads that work best are Italian, Danish, Challah, Brioche and Baguette
- Milk
- 1/2 cup for rigid, chewy Toast,
- 1 cup for soft, jelly-like Toast,
- 3/4 cup for moderate Toast
- 1 Large Egg
- 2 Tablespoons Maple or Butter Syrup
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract/Essence
- 2 Pinches Cinnamon
- A Pinch of Salt
- Butter for cooking
- In a wide bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. One at a time, soak the Bread slices into the mixture (15 seconds per side), and put the bread aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter in it. Put the toasts in the skillet and cook each side for 3-4 minutes (or until they are light brown/golden in color)
- Take out the toasts, serve with more syrup on top, fresh cream or fresh fruit.
