Phoney Filets
- 1 package stuffing mix
- 1 egg
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 12 slices of bacon
- blue cheese, crumbled (optional)
- 1. Prepare the stuffing mix according to the package instructions. Set aside.
- 2. Beat the egg in a mixing bowl. Add the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce and sliced olives to the egg. Mix the ingredients until the combination is smooth and easy to shape into patties.
- 3. Divide the mixture into 10 equal portions. Form each portion into a 1-inch thick patty.
- 4. Trim the bacon slices to match the 1-inch height of the patty-fillets.
- 5. Wrap each fillet with bacon and secure the ends of the bacon with a toothpick. If necessary use one and a half pieces of bacon on each fillet.
- 6. Preheat the barbecue on high for 10 minutes. Turn the heat to medium-high. Oil the grate.
- 7. Place the fillets on the grate. Close the lid. Grill the fillets for 6 or 7 minutes on each side or until thoroughly cooked.
- 8. For richer flavour top the fillets with crumbled blue cheese during the last few minutes of cooking.
