Makrut Maltese Date Tarts
- Pie Crust:
- any pie dough receipe may used, pick your favorite one, I use the shorteningCrisco one.
- After pie crust dough is prepared, roll out to about one-quarter thickness & about 18 inches.
- Filling:
- one package of pitted dates
- 1/4 tsp.cloves,1/4 tsp.nutmeg
- Salad oil to cover dates in saucepan
- Place CHOPPED dates in saucepan with salad oil to cover the dates. Over LOW heat,
- keep mashing the dates, adding
- 1/4 cup hot water to help soften dates, then add the spices keep mashing and stirring slowly, till dates & spices are mixed & soft enough to spreadlike a thick paste
- Pre-heat oven @ 450 degrees.
- Roll out the dough to the thickness & length as indicated in pie-crust dough:
- When date mixture is spread out on pie-crust, fold crust mixture
- slice in angle, seal dough with alitte water & fork.
- Place tarts on sligthly greased
- cooking sheet, place in pre-heated oven fork 10 minutes, then REDUCE oven heat to 350 degarees, for 20-25 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
