Egg Sesame Bread
- yellow food coloring
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 pkg yeast
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 eggs + yolk from egg below, slightly beaten
- 1 1/2 cup scalded milk
- 2 Tbsp melted butter
- approx. 6 1/2 cups sifted flour
- for glaze:
- 1 egg white, beaten
- sesame seeds
- Soften yeast in warm water.
- Put milk, butter, sugar, and salt into pan - scald milk.
- Cool to lukewarm. Pour in bowl.
- Add 2 cups flour to milk & mix.
- Add yeast & water, eggs, food coloring, and mix.
- Add the remainder of the flour a little at a time
- Knead dough and let rise. Punch down and divide into 6 pieces. Shape each into a strip.
- Braid 3 strips into a loaf and tuck ends under. Repeat with remaining 3 strips.
- Place onto cookie sheet and let rise.
- Then brush each loaf with the egg white & sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake at 350-375 for about 30 minutes.
- Tip: you can tell when bread is done by either inserting a toothpick or tapping crust with fingernail. Don't put loaves on same pan - use two that will fit into your oven. Otherwise they will glom together and not be pretty.
