Turkish Pide (Cheese Or Beef)
- 1 egg white, (keep the yolk to brush top)
- 1 stick butter margarine or 2/3 cup olive oil
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- All- purpose flour (approx 3.5-4 cups)
- Feta cheese filling
- Crumbled feta cheese
- 2 tomatoes, shredded
- 2-3 tbsp chopped parsley
- or
- Beef filling
- 8-10 ground beef
- 1 onion, shredded
- 2 tomatoes, shredded
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- To prepare beef filling, in a medium pan, saute onion and beef for a while and add tomatoes. Sprinkle salt and black pepper. Stir to combine. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes and turn the heat off and set aside.
- To make cheese filling, combine crumbled feta cheese, chopped parsley, and shredded tomatoes in a medium mixing bowl.
- Combine all ingredients of dough and gradually add flour until you have a soft dough. Let it rest for 10 minutes. Grab some dough big as a golf ball. Roll it in oval shape. Spread the filling and fold the edges.
- Place them on lightly greased cookie sheet, brush their tops with egg yolk and bake in preheated 350 F oven for about 25- 30 minutes or until golden brown.
