Plain Pound Cake
- 1 c. butter, softened
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3 c. sugar
- 5 eggs
- 3 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. each: salt and ground mace
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
- Cream butter and shortening.
- Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of electric mixer.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt and mace.
- Stir well.
- Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
- Mix just until blended after each addition.
- Stir in flavorings.
- Pour into greased and floured Bundt pan.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 1 1/2 hours or until tester inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan and cool thoroughly on wire rack.
