Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding
- 4 c. cubed stale bread
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 3 c. low-fat milk, divided
- 3 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- boiling water
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Spread bread and raisins in 8-inch square baking dish.
- Whisk 2 cups milk, 2 tablespoons brown sugar and salt in bowl.
- Pour over bread.
- Let stand 15 minutes.
- Turn bread over once.
- Whisk remaining milk, the egg, egg whites, vanilla, granulated sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Pour over bread. Sprinkle remaining brown sugar on top.
- Place pan in larger pan and add water to come halfway up on smaller pan.
- Bake until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
- Remove from water and let cool 15 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm.
