Quick French Tartlets
- Quick French Tarts
- 12 thin slices of soft bread, crusts removed
- Olive oil
- 2 Tbs butter
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp ground thyme
- 1 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 2 onions, very thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups Shredded gruyere cheese
- Heat oven to 350 deg F
- Brush both sides of bread with olive oil and press each slice into a 12 cup muffin tin. Bake bread for 8 minutes or until lightly toasted. Put butter, spices and onion in a medium skillet and cook until onions are caramel colored (about 15 minutes). Remove bay leaf. Add lemon juice and stir. Add salt and pepper.
- Fill the toasted bread cups with filling and top with cheese. Place tartlets back in oven and cook until cheese is bubbly and begins to brown.
- Try to keep from eating them until they cool down! Serve warm or room temperature
