Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies
- 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. butter, softened
- 2/3 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 c. flour
- 1/4 c. cocoa
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. finely chopped nuts
- 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
- candied cherries (optional)
- walnut or pecan halves (optional)
- milk chocolate kisses (optional)
- Cream 1/2 cup butter, 2/3 cup sugar, egg yolk, 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla in bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add mixture of flour, cocoa and salt; blend well.
- Chill for 1 hour. Shape into 1-inch balls.
- Dip into beaten egg white.
- Coat with mixture of chopped nuts and 2 tablespoons sugar.
- Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Make indentation in center of each.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 minutes, or until set.
