All-Season Shortcake

  1. Cut a piece of waxed paper to fit the bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. Lightly oil pan sides and paper.
  3. Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
  4. With a mixer, beat together egg whites, sugar, orange peel and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and margarine until hot, then stir into the egg mixture.
  6. In a bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
  7. Add to the batter and stir to blend well.
  8. Pour batter into prepared pan.
