Apple And Date Cake

  1. Peel, quarter & core apples and cut into small pieces. put into pan with little of sugar and sufficient water to keep them from browning and cook until tender.
  2. Mash and leave to cool.
  3. Put butter in pan with the rest of the sugar, add syrup and let dissolve. Leave to cool.
  4. Sift flour into basin, add ginger and cloves.
  5. Beat eggs, add dissolved syrup and butter and whisk together. Add this to flour, then add apple puree and dates cut into small pieces. Beat for a few minutes, then turn into greased tin. Bake in moderate oven 1/2 hour
