Angie'S American Apple Pie
- Pie Crust: 1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour & 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. butter chilled & diced
- 1/4 c. ice water with 1 tsp vanilla
- Pie Filling: 1/2-1 c. all-purpose flour
- 6-7 c. apples peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp butter(optional)
- Pie Crust: In a large bowl combine flour w/ sugar and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water a Tbsp at a time until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours.
- Pie Filling: Combine apples with sugars. Add flour, cinnamon and mix until well coated.
- Baking: Preheat oven to 375. Roll dough to fit pan with overhang. After filling crust with apples cut butter into small pieces and lay on top. Top with 2nd crust or streudel. Cut off extra crust. (Optional: brush edges and top crust with egg wash to help make golden brown). Wrap crust edge with foil to prevent burning. Place pan on baking sheet to catch boil over and bake for 25 minutes with foil on edges. Remove foil and bake for 20-25 more minutes.
