Chocolate Birthday Cake
- In mixing bowl
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cut shortening
- 1 Teas. salt
- 1 1/2 Teas. soda
- 3 squares melted unsweetened chocolate (3 oz.)
- 3/4 cup milk
- Blend for 2 minutes
- Stir in 3/4 teas. baking powder
- ADD:
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 Teas. vanilla
- 3 eggs unbeaten
- Pour batter into 2- 9" layer cake pans.
- Bake 30-35 minutes at 350u0b0F.
- After completely cooled, slice of rounded tops with bread knife.
- Frost with 3-4-minute frosting.
- In top of double boiler
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 egg whites
- 1/8 teas. salt
- 1 teas. Vanilla
- Partially mix, place on rapidly boiling water and cook 3 to 4 minutes, beating constantly with hand mixer until stiff. Remove and beat in vanilla.
- FROST CAKE - refrigerate and serve cold
