Crisp Sweet Pickles(Quick)

  1. Put the
  2. celery
  3. seed, salt and cloves in a bag.
  4. Slice medium size cucumbers in about 1/4-inch slices.
  5. Cover with a mixture of 2 cups lime and 2 gallons of water.
  6. Let stand for 24
  7. hours, stirring
  8. occasionally.
  9. Rinse
  10. cucumbers well and soak for 3 hours in clear, cold water, then drain well.
  11. Bring to a
  12. boil the vinegar, sugar and spices;
  13. let cool a little, then
  14. pour over the drained cucumbers and let stand overnight. Next morning,
  15. boil all
  16. for
  17. 40 minutes.
  18. (I let them simmer after they
  19. come to a boil.) Pack pickles into sterilized jars and pour hot liquid over them and seal.
  20. Yields 7 or 8 pints.
