Homemade Tomato Ketchup
- 2 TBLS pickling spice
- 1 TBLS vegetable oil
- 1 Large sweet onion sliced
- 1 cans(28 ounce each)
- crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tsp mustard powder
- 1 TBLS Worcestershire sauce
- 3/4 cup cider vinegar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- Bundle the pickling spice in a small square of cheesecloth and set aside. In a deep saute pan heat your oil over medium and add the onion to saute until soft. Add the tomatoes, garlic powder, cayenne, smoked paprika, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, cider vinegar, salt, pepper and the pickling spice sachet. Cook all this for 45 minutes or until thick. Remove and discard the pickling spice sachet. Working in batches, transfer to a blender and puree. Transfer to a clean glass jar and refrigerate. This will keep up to 3 weeks.
