Hearty Pea Soup

  1. Saute onions in butter until soft, along with bay leaves and celery seed.
  2. Stir in peas, barley and lima beans.
  3. Add water and bring to a boil.
  4. Cook for 1 1/2 hours on low heat or until beans are tender.
  5. Add salt, pepper, vegetables and herbs.
  6. Turn heat down as low as possible and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Makes 8 to 9 cups.
