Master Granola Recipe
- 2 c old fashioned oats
- 1 c Extra ingredients
- 1/2 c wheat germ
- 1/4 c maple syrup
- 2 T brown sugar
- 3 T vegetable oil
- 1/4 t salt
- 1 T water
- Flavoring (see below)
- Heat oven to 275u0b0 F with rack in center. Spray 9" x 13" pan with Pam. In bowl, mix oats, wheat germ, brown sugar, salt, extra ingredients (except dried fruit) and flavoring. Bring syrup, oil and water to simmer in saucepan over low heat. Drizzle over oat mixture, stirring to combine. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Working a handful at a time, squeeze mixture to form small clumps. Bake for 30 minutes. Stir in dried fruit and bake for 15 minutes more. Let cool before storing.
- Variations
- 1. Classic Granola. Extra ingredients: 1/3 c chopped pecans or walnuts, 1/3 c sweetened flake coconut, 1/3 c dried cranberries. Flavoring: 1/2 t ground cinnamon.
- 2. Granola with Tropical Fruit. Extra ingredients: 1/4 c chopped roasted unsalted cashews, 1/4 c chopped dried pineapple, 1/4 c sweetened flake coconut, 1/4 c chopped banana chips. Flavoring: 1/2 t ground ginger.
- 3. Granola with Cherries and Almonds. Extra ingredients: 1/3 c sliced almonds, 1/3 c sweetened flake coconut, 1/3 c dried cherries. Flavoring: 3/4 t almond extract*. *Mix in with syrup.
