Challah

  1. place warm water, sugar, honey, vegetable oil, salt, 2 eggs, flour and yeast in the bread machine, and select dough (9) and start.
  2. After the machine ends it cycle, sprinkle flour on the counter and let the dough sit for 5 minutes, then divide the dough in half, make 3 or 4 12 to 14 inch lengths from each half. Take a cookie sheet and spray it well with Pam and braid the two challahs, leaving it on the cookie sheet. Mist it with water and cover it gently with a plastic wrap and let it sit for 1 to 1 1/2 hours in a draft free location until it doubles in size.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, mix the egg with a a tablespoon of water and brush on the challahs, then bake in the over for 20 to 25 minutes. If it begins to brown too soon, cover it with foil.
