Chocolate Caramel Nut Bars

  1. Heat oven to 350u0b0.
  2. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup of the milk in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Mix remaining milk, cake mix and margarine in a large bowl.
  4. Press 1/2 of the cake mix into the bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake 8 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle 1 cup of the walnuts and 1/2 cup of the chips over crust; top with caramel mixture, spreading to edges of pan.
  7. Top with teaspoonfuls of remaining cake mixture; press gently into caramel mixture.
  8. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup walnuts and 1/2 cup chips.
  9. Bake 18 minutes. Cool; cut into bars.
  10. Makes 24.
