Chocolate Gem Pie

  1. For crust, combine flour, pecans and brown sugar.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, melt shortening and 1 square of chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Stir into flour mixture until combined.
  4. Mix vanilla and water and sprinkle over mixture while tossing.
  5. Form into a ball.
  6. Roll out to make a 12-inch circle between 2 sheets of wax paper.
  7. Remove waxed paper.
  8. Place crust into a 9-inch pie plate; flute edge.
  9. Prick well.
  10. Bake until surface appears dry. Cool.
