Festive French Toast
- 12 slices Texas Toast (1" thick bread slices, untoasted)
- 10 eggs (I use jumbo)
- 2 1/2 cups half & half
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tsp sugar/Splenda
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1 Tbs vanilla
- 1 Tbs canola oil
- 3 Tbs maple syrup
- Garnish:
- powdered sugar (optional)
- whipped cream (optional)
- maple syrup, warmed
- 1. Place bread in 2 baking pans 9x12 or 10x13 with 1" sides.
- 2. Mix all remaining ingredients (up to Garnish) with whisk and pour 1/2 over bread. Turn bread over with spatula and pour remaining liquid over bread.
- 3. Cover tightly with foil or plastic and refrigerate overnight.
- 4. Cook on medium low heat on pre-heated griddle until golden brown, about 7-10 minutes. Turn over, cook until golden brown, about 6-8 minutes. You may want to loosly cover with foil while cooking first side.
- 5. Slice in half diagonally. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve with whipped cream and warm maple syrup.
