German Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake

  1. Preparation of the first set of ingredients:
  2. Sift together the flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Cream together the sugar, mayonnaise, water and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture; stir until well blended. Pour batter into greased and floured layer cake pans (or a 9- x 13-inch pan). Bake at 350u0b0F. for about 25 minutes.
  3. Preparation for making the icing:
  4. Cook on the stove; melt butter; add brown sugar and water, allow to melt and bring to soft boil; add vanilla, salt and coconut, (optional-add crushed nuts). Pierce the cake numerous times evenly spaced over the cake to allow the juices to soak through the cake. Pour the warm icing over the cake when it comes out of the oven.
