Cheeseburgers With Caramelized Onion
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 None white onions, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 None hamburger buns, split
- 1 None tomato, sliced thinly
- 8 leaves butter lettuce
- 4 None dill pickles, thinly sliced
- None None Yellow mustard, to serve
- None None Ketchup, to serve
- Place the beef in a bowl and season, then shape into 4 patties. If using a grill, preheat.
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan and cook the onion, stirring, until soft. Add the sugar, vinegar and 2 tbsp water and cook, stirring, until the onion is caramelized.
- Cook the beef patties on the grill or a heated, oiled frying pan until cooked to desired doneness. Top each burger with a slice of cheese during last minute of cooking.
- Meanwhile, toast the buns, cut-sides down, on the grill or an oiled frying pan.
- Divide the burgers, caramelized onion, tomato, lettuce and pickle among the buns and serve with mustard and ketchup.
