Fried Dough Chips With Caramel Sauce Dip
- 7 tbsp butter, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla bean paste
- 3/4 cup cream
- None None Pastry
- 2 None sheets frozen pie crust, thawed
- None None oil for deep-frying
- None None powdered sugar to dust
- None None strawberries, to serve (optional)
- Line an oven tray with baking paper.
- Using a hand-held crimped pasta cutter, cut pie dough widthwise into 1 inch strips. Tie pastry pieces into loose knots. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Make caramel sauce by melting butter in a saucepan on medium. Stir in brown sugar and bring to a boil, stirring, for 30 seconds until thick and golden. Stir in vanilla paste and remove from heat. Pour in cream, stirring until combined and smooth. Return to heat and bring to a boil on high. Cook for 30 seconds. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Heat oil in a wok or large saucepan on medium. Deep-fry dough pieces in 3 batches for 2-3 minutes, until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towel.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve with caramel sauce and strawberries.
