Chocolate Spiced Apple Cake
- 1 (16.5 oz) box devil's food cake mix
- 1 None large apple, peeled and grated, plus extra apple slices for garnish
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 12 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
- 8 oz whipped cream
- 3/4 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- None None fresh mint, for garnish
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0F. Grease 3 - 9 inch round cake pans.
- Prepare cake mix according to package directions, adding grated apple, walnuts and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 12 mins, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 mins then invert onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese with whipped cream until smooth. Add caramel sauce, sugar, and remaining cinnamon. Beat until smooth.
- Spread frosting over top of 2 cakes then stack together. Stack third cake layer on top. Transfer remaining frosting to a pastry bag fitted with a star tip and pipe decorative swirls 1 inch from the edge of the cake. Garnish with apple slices and mint.
