Banana Bread
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup ground poppy seeds
- 1 2/3 cups ground hazelnuts
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 13 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 None medium eggs
- 3 None ripe bananas, peeled and mashed
- 2 tbsp sour cream
- 7 oz marzipan
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, + 1 tblsp for dusting
- None None yellow food coloring
- 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0F. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, poppy seeds, nuts and baking powder. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter, sugar and vanilla extract. Add a pinch of salt and stir in the eggs one at a time. Fold in the mashed bananas and the sour cream. Then fold in the flour mixture. Transfer to a well greased and floured 12 inch loaf pan and bake on the middle rack for about 1 hour. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 1 hour in the pan before removing and cooling on a wire rack.
- For the banana decoration. knead the marzipan with 1/2 cup powdered sugar and yellow food coloring. Roll out on a work surface, and using a banana peel as a template, cut out the shape. Mold into a banana peel shape and dust with cocoa powder where necessary. Dust the cake with powdered sugar and place the marzipan banana peel on top.
