Open-Faced Steak And Onion Sandwich
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 None large red onion, peeled and sliced into thin rings
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 x 6 oz thin-cut rump or sirloin steak
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp wholegrain mustard
- 1 None medium tomato, sliced
- None Handful watercress
- 1/2 loaf ciabatta, lightly toasted
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a small frying pan; fry onion for 10 mins, stirring occasionally, until golden and soft. Add the sugar; cook, stirring, for a further 2 mins until the sugar has dissolved and is slightly syrupy. Remove the onions and juices from the pan; keep warm.
- Heat the remaining oil in the pan. Season the steak and cook over a high heat for 1-2 mins each side, or according to taste.
- Mix the mayonnaise and mustard. Layer the tomato, watercress and onions on the toasted ciabatta. Place the steak on top; spoon over the mustard mayonnaise. Serve immediately.
