Orange And Poppy Seed Syrup Cake
- 1/3 up poppy seeds
- 1/4 cup milk
- 15 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 None large eggs
- 1 2/3 cups self-rising flour, sifted
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1/2 cup ground almonds
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- None None FOR THE ORANGE SYRUP
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup orange juice
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0F. Grease a deep 8 inch cake pan and line base and sides with parchment paper.
- Combine poppy seeds and milk in a small bowl. Let stand for 20 mins.
- Beat butter, orange zest and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time. Stir in flour, ground almonds, orange juice and poppy seed mixture. Transfer to prepared pan and bake for 1 hour, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 5 mins then transfer to a wire rack set over a rimmed baking tray.
- Meanwhile, to make the orange syrup, stir sugar, orange juice and 1/3 cup water over low heat, without boiling, until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer, without stirring, for 2 mins. Pour hot syrup over hot cake.
