Danish Pastry Apple Bars

  1. Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening.
  2. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid.
  3. Mix well; stir into flour mixture.
  4. On floured surface, roll half the dough to 17 x 12-inch rectangle; fit into and up sides of 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch baking pan.
  5. Sprinkle with cornflakes; top with apples.
  6. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle atop.
  7. Roll remaining dough to 15 1/2-inch rectangle; place over apples.
  8. Seal edges; cut slits in top.
  9. Beat egg white until frothy; brush on crust.
  10. Bake in 375u0b0 oven for 50 minutes.
  11. Combine 1 cup sifted powdered sugar and 3 to 4 teaspoons milk; drizzle on warm cookies. Makes 3 dozen.
