Hoisin Braised Short Ribs
- 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 None star anise
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 (2 inch) strip orange zest
- 1 None fresh long red chili, chopped coarsely
- 4 1/2 lb beef short ribs
- Preheat oven to 300u0b0F.
- Combine hoisin sauce, stock, sugar, ginger, garlic, star anise, orange juice, orange zest and chili in a large shallow baking dish. Add ribs and turn to coat. Cover pan with foil and bake for 2 hours.
- Flip ribs over, cover and return to oven for another 30 mins, or until tender. Remove ribs from dish and cover to keep warm.
- Pour braising liquid into a medium saucepan then skim fat from surface. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 10 mins, or thickened slightly. Season to taste.
- Serve ribs drizzled with sauce.
