Prize Winning Bread
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 1/2 c. hot tap water
- 1 c. cold water
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. potato flakes
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 c. Crisco shortening
- 6 to 8 c. flour
- Mix the first 3 ingredients and set aside.
- Mix 6 tablespoons sugar, salt, potato flakes and shortening together.
- Then add the hot water.
- When shortening is melted, add the cold water and yeast mixture.
- Add 4 cups flour and beat good.
- Then add 2 or more cups flour and stir until very thick.
- Then I gradually add the rest of the flour.
- This works real good in large mixer with bread hook. Turn out on floured board and knead.
- Let rest in oiled bowl until doubled, then put in bread pans.
- Let rise another 1/2 hour.
- Makes 4 loaves.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 45 minutes.
