Ole Time Hush Puppies

  1. Heat the 1 1/2 to 2 cups cooking oil in a deep-sided skillet or heavy-gauge pot.
  2. (Heavy cast-iron pots and pans are best for this type of frying.)
  3. Combine all dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Add the eggs, buttermilk and onions.
  5. Stir well until you have a coarse batter.
  6. Add the 2 tablespoons of bacon drippings (or oil) and blend well with the other ingredients.
