Classic Lasagna
- 2 None onions, peeled and finely diced
- 200 g carrots, peeled and finely chopped
- 2-3 cloves garlic, peeled and finely diced
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 kg minced beef
- 1-2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 can (850ml) chopped tomatoes
- 1 litre vegetable stock
- 100 g butter
- 100 g plain flour
- 500 ml milk
- 1 pinch grated nutmeg
- 200 g Parmesan cheese, grated
- 100 g Gouda cheese, grated
- 16 sheets lasagne
- None None oregano for garnish
- For the meat sauce, heat the oil in a large frying pan, and sear the beef until it becomes crumbly. Add the onions, garlic, oregano and carrots and saute briefly. Season to taste and pour in the tomatoes and 1 cup of stock. Simmer over low heat for about 10 mins.
- Preheat the oven to 400u0b0F. For the white sauce, melt the butter in a pan, stir in the flour and heat until it begins to brown. Slowly pour in the milk and remaining stock. Simmer, stirring, for about 1 min. Add the nutmeg and season to taste.
- Pour a layer of meat sauce into a greased baking dish, followed by a layer of 4 lasagne noodles and then a layer of white sauce. Repeat the process 3 more times, finishing with a layer of white sauce. Sprinkle with the grated cheese and bake for 45-50 mins. Serve garnished with oregano.
