Cherry Berries On A Cloud

  1. Heat oven to 275u0b0.
  2. Cover baking sheet with heavy brown paper. Draw outline of heart, 9 inches across greatest width, on paper. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Beat in 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time; continue beating until stiff and glossy.
  4. Do not underbeat!
  5. Spoon meringue into outline on paper, building up side.
  6. Bake for 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Turn off oven; leave meringue in oven with door closed for 1 hour.
  8. Remove from oven; finish cooling away from draft.
